Dorothy E. Speirs

Dorothy Speirs was until her retirement Assistant Professor in the Department of French Studies, curator of the Emile Zola Archives, and coordinator of the undergraduate Book & Media Studies Program at St. Michael’s College. From 1975 to 1995, she was part of the editorial team which published the 10-volume critical edition of Emile Zola’s Correspondance (Presses de l’Université de Montréal/Éditions du CNRS). Her other interests include 19th century publishing history in France and England, and the history of the Vizetelly & Co. publishing house. With Professor Yannick Portebois, she has published an edition of the letters to Émile Zola from his English translator and agent, Ernest A. Vizetelly (Presses de l’Université de Montréal, 2002).
